Amy Brenneman is probably still best known for her role of Janice Licalsi on the ABC drama "NYPD Blue," a role for which she received an Emmy nomination. She has also been featured on the television series "Middle Ages." Movie credits include "The Suburbans," "Your Friends and Neighbors," "Fear," "Fear," and "Casper."

More notably, Brenneman is a co-founder of the acclaimed Cornerstone Theatre Company, with which she has appeared in "The Learned Ladies," "Sincerity Forever," "The Video Owner's Significant Other," and "St. Joan of the Stockyards."

Brenneman, who is a graduate of Harvard University, was born in New London, Connecticut and now lives in Los Angeles with her husband, director Brad Silberling. Before she became an actress, she was a teacher in Brooklyn, NY.

"Judging Amy" is based on the real-life story of Brenneman's own mother, a superior court judge.
